Glad nothing like this is happening again this weekend in Chicago, despite all the hype and worry. I talked with the owner of the Heartland Cafe in Rogers Park who was involved in this and it was crazy to hear about it first hand.
From our tour practice sessions, as a submission to couch by couch west.

Running From Home
We/Or/Me
We/Or/me’s cover of a Bert Jansch song, Running From Home. Think it fits as we just finished our second day of a move. We’re staying in town but it’s a deep move - not so much physically as emotionally as we feel like we’re moving to a place that feels more like home than any place we’ve ever lived. “Catchin dreams on a star” I guess you could say.

Bert Jansch: A Tribute
Check this place out! Soulwich, downtown Evanston. Huge sandwiches for a good price, several meat options as well as vegetarian and vegan choices. Thai, Indonesian and Chinese sandwiches with soft French bread and lots of fillings including fresh cucumber, carrots and onions in my curry chicken sandwich. Also homemade potato chips and pomegranate lemonade. Friendly, accommodating service. Great alternative to Jimmy Johns or Subway, or if you can’t make it down to the banh mi places on Broadway!
Our very own Andrew and his most recent EP, Songs from Bubbly Creek, were just mentioned in an article about the Chicago River and cultural resources for positive change on the WBEZ website. Speaking of efforts to re-reverse the river and its troubled history it mentions, “…the notorious Bubbly Creek (speaking of cultural resources check out local Andrew Malo’s ode to the notorious stew, the 2012 EP Songs from Bubbly Creek).”
Click on the link above to hear the songs on bandcamp, read about the thinking that went into the album, and purchase the album!
If you don’t feel like visiting a beautiful shop that makes tasty, tasty coffee and I-have-to-ride-that-or-my-head-will-explode bikes then don’t look at these pictures.
Not sure if Bahhaj meant it this way but this song really seems to fit the Fast the more I think about it.
I did this! It was really fun to do the old-in-new effect, something I’d been wanting to do for a while. Think I may have posted this before but my work blog just posted them yesterday.
The past decade has seen some amazing renovation and building efforts at the Baha’i House of Worship in Wilmette, IL. Here are images of what things look like now and when they were in process. It’s wonderful to think how far we’ve come since that time 100 years ago when ‘Abdu’l-Baha, son of the Founder of the Baha’i Faith, laid the cornerstone on these very grounds.
We hope you enjoy and get to visit soon!
Where I’ll be tonight!* Great music and great coffee. Done.
*Unless you’re a stalker, then I’ll be somewhere else entirely.
Don’t miss the We/Or/Me concert at Heritage Bicycles General Store tonight! Unless you have a shark rodeo planned (and if you do get us the address ‘cause we’re totally there after the concert) this is the best way to spend your night tonight.
When: Thursday, February 23, 7-9pm
Where: Heritage Bicycles General Store, 2959 Lincoln Ave. Chicago, IL

Woohoo! My friend’s album came out today. Streaming for free, $4 to buy. Great deal for a great EP. It’s an awesome mix of folk, country and beautiful lyrics.
Here it is. Songs From Bubbly Creek is officially released. Put on a pair of headphones, sit in a nice chair, sip some coffee, and relax…. or just press play from your computer. 4 dollars to purchase. 0 dollars to stream.
Bookman’s Alley in Evanston. I found it way too late and now it’s closing this Spring. It’s in an alley behind a flower shop. You can get lost in here. Literally. It goes on and on and on. And on. Interspersed among the books and memorabilia are artifacts from the time period of the books in that section - WWII, English countryside, saddles. The owner doesn’t seem to do anything besides sit behind a huge pile of books waiting to be processed and read, occasionally chatting with customers. I could think of worse ways to spend my latter days.
I took this!
The House of Worship is resplendent after a recent snow storm.
“No sacrifice can be deemed too great to insure the completion of such an edifice - the most holy House of Worship ever to be associated with the Faith of the Most Great Name….”
